About me
Timothy DeLisle
Director of Education and Curation
Timothy DeLisle is the Director of Education and Curation at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). His work centers on making scientific tools and data more accessible through intuitive software, interactive museum experiences, and hands‑on STEMeducation.Tim first came to PARI as a student himself and later returned as a research intern, where he adapted legacy radio telescope systems into modern web‑based interfaces used by students and teachers worldwide.
As staff, he has contributed to software engineering, telescope upgrades, museum exhibit development, and the mentoring of interns and camp teams. His 2020 COVID-19-motivated adaptation of PARI’s summer programs, creating a set of 16 fully offline, hands-on science kits, ultimately reached around 1,500 students. The kits included everything needed; no assumptions were made about existing supplies or equipment. They didn’t rely on computers or an internet connection and were crafted specifically to contrast with virtual online content.
Current projects include developing an adaptive, accessible visitor‑driven museum app and integrating PARI’s instruments into UNC’s Skynet Robotic Telescope Network.
Tim has more than 20 years of experience in technology education, from early web development and tutoring to museum interpretation, STEM program design, and national conference presentations. He has contributed to multiple grants in STEM education, accessibility, and astronomical research, including PARI’s 3D Planets program and NSF-funded ROVERS project.
