About me
Dr. Jessie Peterson is a Navigator for Learning in the Professions in the Office of Rural Promise Appalachian State University. She is also an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She holds a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from Clemson University, an M.M. in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a B.M. in Music Education from Appalachian State University.Dr. Peterson has over eight years of teaching experience as a band director in North Carolina. Throughout her career, she has earned several accolades, including Rowan-Salisbury Schools Beginning Teacher of the Year (2019), the Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation Grant (2020), and participation in Go Global NC’s Global Teacher Program in Australia (2020). She was named Corriher-Lipe Middle School’s Teacher of the Year (2022–2023) and received the Ed Rooker Encore Award from the American School Band Directors Association in 2022. She has presented her work at regional, state, and national conferences, including the American Educational Research Association, NCMEA, and DCMEA.Dr. Peterson is an active member of the American Educational Research Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association, Women Band Directors International, the National Association for Music Education, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Alpha Iota.
