Dr. Kim Morrison is a Superintendent in Residence for The Innovation Project. She is the former Superintendent ofMount Airy City Schools (MACS). Dr. Morrison recently led a 21-million-dollar project in 55 schools in eight school districts. The overarching goal of this federal project was to create strategic staffing models in rural NC school districts. All eight school districts hit their academic targets, awarding over $1 million in bonus pay to educators.Dr. Morrison's impact extends far beyond traditional boundaries. She has secured over $50 million in grants for public schools, cultivating award-winning programs that have earned national recognition, including the prestigious Ronald P. Simpson Award, the Schools to Watch Award, and District of Distinction honors. As a former President of Magnet Schools of America and former Chair of The Innovation Project, she champions educational innovation across the country.Her exceptional contributions have earned her North Carolina's highest civilian honor—the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Governor Roy Cooper—along with recognition as PTEC Superintendent of the Year, one of three finalists for NC Superintendent of the Year, and a finalist for the American Association of School Administrators' "Women inSchool Leadership Awards." Appalachian State University honored her with its top alumni award, the Rhododendron Award. Above all achievements, Dr. Morrison treasures her roles as mother to college-age students Kaleb and Eli, and cherishes her time at home with her husband Tommy and their beloved Maltese, Max.
