Our grant provided additional support to beginning teachers in our district with the goal of increasing retention within our communities. Each semester, two teachers worked with a specialist who observed in their classrooms, provided feedback, helped with materials and resources, and accompanied them on observations at other district schools. During each term, five other teachers in the district also engaged in observations and reflection related to their content areas.
In this session, participants will engage in scenarios and role playing to remind themselves of what it is like to be a beginning teacher. With struggles ranging from classroom management and lesson planning to data analysis and types of assessments, new educators, especially those who are residency licensed, struggle with juggling all of the pieces. The discussion and scenarios will provide you with ideas on how to support beginning teachers in your building as they navigate all of their responsibilities.
